What is Climate Change Doing to Our World?

By:Samantha

Climate change is a serious problem. Climate change affects animals and their habitats way more than it affects humans. Many people would argue, “It affects humans way more.” but that is not true. Climate change is affecting 1,400 species everyday. And way worse, their habitat is home to hundreds of species. Here is why i think this.

Climate change affecting animals is a big deal. And some of the affected species have already become extinct. Here are some facts showing what climate change has already done to these animals. This will show one species about to go extinct  due to climate change, in its natural habitat becoming less and less safe for them. In the article writen by Christine Dell’Amore it states, “A polar bear stands on an ice floe near Manitoba, Canada, in 2012. Polar bears depend on sea ice, which is forming later in the fall and disappearing earlier in the spring.” This shows an example of my topic sentence because it shows how badly climate change is affecting them. Their food and water recourse could disappear with them. This next quote will show how much carbon dioxide has gone up and how much it is affecting animals. This will give dates back to 1950. In an article on NASA’s website  it states, “Just in the last 650,000 years there have been seven cycles of glacial advance and retreat, with the abrupt end of the last ice age about 7,000 years ago marking the beginning of the modern climate era — and of human civilization. Most of these climate changes are attributed to very small variations in Earth’s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives.” This proves my topic sentence because it shows how much humans have been impacting animals sense 1950. This next quote is going to explain what animals are doing during this time of climate change.Climate change is doing “widespread and consequential” harm to animals and plants, which are struggling to adapt to new conditions, according to a major report released on Monday.” This proves my topic sentence because it’s showing that animals are struggling to adapt to this new world climate change has given them. Climate change with animals is a huge deal and it’s very serious, even their habitats are slowly fading.

Their habitat destruction is even worse because it gives home to hundreds of animals, and with a habitat gone those species could go extinct without a home. This is going to show what losing a habitat is gunna do to animals. In the article “Climate Impacts On Ecosystems” by the National EPA Sytem it states, “Because species differ in their ability to adjust, asynchronies can develop, increasing species and ecosystem vulnerability. These asynchronies can include mismatches in the timing of migration, breeding, pest avoidance, and food availability. Growth and survival are reduced when migrants arrive at a location before or after food sources are present.”This proves my topic sentence because it’s showing the dramatic effects on both animals and humans.

This next quote will show the high affect on habitats and what will happen to them.In an article by the National Wildlife Federation, it states,  ”Often overlooked, just as important as the many ways in which our climate is changing, is that it is changing so fast and thus the need to address global warming. Species may not be able to adapt to this rapid climate change or to move fast enough to more suitable areas as their current areas become less suitable for them. Unless significant action is taken now, global warming will likely become the single most important factor to affect wildlife since the emergence of mankind. This shows what the affect is going to be if climate change starts to become faster and faster. This next quote will show how climate change is cause on habitats. In an article by the Conservation Commity it states, “Scientists now know that climate change is being caused in part by human activity particularly emissions from driving our cars, operating our power plants, heating and cooling our homes and other activities that involve combustion of fossil fuels. Reducing the amount of fossil fuels we use and the carbon released into the atmosphere is a responsibility we all share. Your everyday actions can make a difference in reducing emissions and your carbon footprint” This shows it is affecting habitat because this shows what adaptations animals AND plants will have to make. These show what we are doing to our environment and how we can fix it.

It’s almost impossible to wipe out the whole entire human species, so animals have a lot more to worry about. This quote will shows that climate change does affect humans but not as much. It states, “The severity of these health risks will depend on the ability of public health and safety systems to address or prepare for these changing threats, as well as factors such as an individual’s behavior, age, gender, and economic status”This proves my topic sentence because a animal species is WAY easier to wipe out than the human species. This next quote  is going to show specifically what climate change is damaging.”Human health has always been influenced by climate and weather. Changes in climate and climate variability, particularly changes in weather extremes, affect the environment that provides us with clean air, food, water, shelter, and security” This proves my topic sentence because it’s showing some small effects when really the animal affects are way larger. This next quote will show what happens when the sickness that climate change is  distributed. “Exposure is contact between a person and one or more biological, psychosocial, chemical, or physical stressors, including stressors affected by climate change. Contact may occur in a single instance or repeatedly over time, and may occur in one location or over a wider geographic area.”This proves my topic sentence because it shows where climate change is happening when it’s happening to animals everywhere.

To conclude, climate change is one of the most dangerous things happening to the world right now, and it’s mostly affecting animals and there a lot more we can do to save the world and that starts with changing the way we live our lives. These animals are in a lot more danger than humans are and a lot of people dont even notice whats going on,so if we try we can lower climate change rates.
