When he was a teenager, Malcolm X was a thief and because of that, he went to jail. While he was in jail, he read most of the time. He then got out of jail and started working with the Nation of Islam. With the Nation of Islam, Malcolm X helped people fight for their rights.
When he was a teen, Malcolm X was a thief and because of that he was put in prison. While he was in prison, he read most of the time. When he got out of prison he joined The Nation Of Islam and help people defend themselves. Biography.com notes, “In 1938, Malcolm X was kicked out of school and sent to a juvenile detention home in Mason, Michigan. The white couple who ran the home treated him well, but he wrote in his autobiography that he was treated more like a ‘pink poodle’ or a ‘pet canary’ than a human being.”’ Malcolm X was treated with disrespect and was kicked out of his school and sent to juvenile detention. It proves my thesis because it talks about his life when he was kicked out of school and that was what started his life as criminal. He stole and took drugs and became a criminal in New York. Biography.com says,“He got another job as kitchen help on the Yankee Clipper train between New York and Boston and fell further into a life of drugs and crime.” This is related to my topic sentence because it talks about how he took drugs. He was in jail for ten years for larceny. “This phase of Malcolm X’s life came to a screeching halt in 1946, when he was arrested on charges of larceny and sentenced to ten years in jail.” This is related to my topic because it talks about how he went to jail. That is the reason Malcolm X was in jail.
Malcolm X became a freedom fighter because he went through a spiritual journey when he was in jail. His example inspired other people to stand up themselves. This talks about how he read in jail. “To pass the time during his incarceration, Malcolm X read constantly, devouring books from the prison library in an attempt make up for the years of education he had missed by dropping out of high school.”This is related to my topic because he is in jail and he is reading to pass the time he also caught up on the years of school he missed. The Nation Of Islam gave Malcolm X hope and compassion. “But the Nation Of Islam also gave him something to fight for and gave him hope for a better world, which cannot be understated when analyzing the development of a leader as powerful as Malcolm. For it is this hope that drove him to be so passionate.” This explains that The Nation Of Islam help Malcolm X to become a leader because they gave him hope and compassion around others. The SNCC wanted rights for black people but they weren’t able to get rights.“Influenced largely by Malcolm, in the summer of 1966 members of SNCC called for black power for black people. Their lack of power was the foundation of Malcolm’s charge that they were denied human rights in America. His clarity on this matter, as America continues its retreat from its commitment to full freedom for his people, has guaranteed for him pride of place among black leaders.”That’s the reason that Malcolm X was apart of The Nation Of Islam and the the black people. This is how Malcolm X became a freedom fighter for the black people.
