The first Olympics took place in 776 BC. It was invented when Koribos, a cook from a city close to Athens, where the first Olympics was held, won the Stadion race. A Stadion race is just a race on a simple track. The first Olympics was rather different from modern Olympics. It was a time of segregation when women and people of the outside culture were not welcome.

This is not right because all people should have equal rights. Only men, boys and unmarried girls were allowed to attend the Olympic Games. Married women were not allowed into the Olympic Games. Any women caught sneaking in were punished! Woman weren’t even allowed to watch. In the first Olympics there was a separate one day competition, as opposed to a for day Olympics for men. This was unfair because the men cared about themselves so much that they only created a four day competition to represent their power but only created a one day competition for women and one of the only event was running. ‘’Along with the athletic contests held at ancient Olympia, there was a separate festival in honor of Hera (the wife of Zeus). This festival included foot races for unmarried girls.’’ Some people think that this is not a big deal because women got to compete in something, but really the men were nervous the women would win so they kicked them out and into their own competition. In conclusion the women were treated extremely poorly in the ancient Olympics.
The modern Olympics are quite different from the first Olympics. The modern Olympics now has winter Olympics.

The added sports are a great way for more athletes to be noticed. To end women were allowed to compete in modern Olympics but not till 2012. Women were still excluded even in 2011.
Today, the olympics provide incredible entertainment for the whole world, a chance for athletes to demonstrate their strength and abilities, and they allow countries to come together and get along with each other while cheering on athletes. Blindly rooting for people because they have the American flag next to their name. There’s nothing like flipping on a NBC channel to watch an event that you don’t know much about but seeing an American competing ‘’ The modern olympics produces a chance for people to be entertained because their is something for everyone to enjoy. There are so many sports in the olympics and there are some sports being added. The modern olympics is a chance for everyone to together along because people are cheering for the same team. ‘’Jesse Owens and Luz Long were never meant to be friends. They were fierce rivals who represented different ideologies and were competing for coveted medals at the Olympic Games Berlin 1936. But strange miracles are the true nature of sport’’ Two rivals can come together and become friends because they relise their similarities because they cheering for the same team. Finally athletes have a chance to show their strength and perseverance. “Michael Fred Phelps II (born June 30, 1985) is an American former competitive swimmer and the most decorated Olympian of all time,with a total of 28 medals. Phelps also holds the all-time records for Olympic gold medals.’’ Michael Phelps works hard to show how strong he is. He is one of the best swimmers in the world. The olympics are a great source of entertainment. It is a chance for athlete to show strength and people come together because they are rooting for the whole team.
IN conclusion the Olympics was a time where women weren’t treated as equally as others. The first and most recent Olympics were rather different from the first. Women should have been treated just as equally as men. In our society today they still are not treated the same.
