How the Black Panther Party changed the World

The Black Panther Party, which started in 1966 in Oakland, California, made a huge impact in history because they stood up for themselves, they helped other people who needed help and they also did what they thought was right for them to get equal rights from the government.  

The Black Panther Party were treated unfairly by not having equal rights. So then The Black Panther Party formed to prevent bad things from happening like police brutality. In the text it stated, “Black Panther Party started in Oakland California in 1966. The leader of the Party was a guy named Huey Newton. Black Panther Party, original name Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, African American revolutionary party, founded in 1966 in Oakland, California, by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale.” This proves my topic sentence because it talks about were the Black Panther Party formed and who made it. The Black Panther Party formed because they were threatened a lot by the police and  other people who did not like them. In the text it said, “The Panthers eventually developed into a Marxist revolutionary group that called for the arming of all African Americans.” This supports my topic sentence because it is showing“The party’s original purpose was to patrol African American neighborhoods to protect residents from acts of police brutality. The BPP formed because a lot of police were harming them. In the text it stated, “ The party’s original purpose was to patrol African American neighbourhoods to protect residents from acts of police brutality.” This shows that since that there were a lot of police brutality, they wanted to stop it. To conclude this paragraph, it talks about how the Black Panther Party formed and how they protected themselves from police brutality and other people which tried to hurt them.

The Black Panther Party defended themselves and their black neighborhoods by shooting cops when they felt threatened. When the leader of the party got arrested for shooting a police there were a lot of protests for his freedom.The BPP defended black neighborhoods when they were in severe trouble. In the text it stated, “ they were willing to speak out for all those who were oppressed from whatever minority group. They were willing to use violence to get what they wanted.” This proves my topic sentence because it talked about how they were not afraid to use violence to protect their neighborhoods.” The BPP did not like the police so they shot a lot of police. In the text it stated, “ The head of the FBI, Edgar J Hoover, called the BPP “the greatest threat to the internal security of the country.” This supports my topic sentence because it talked about how the FBI got involved because of many policies deaths.  Their leader, Huey Newton got arrested for shooting a lot of police. In the text it said, “…with news of Newton’s arrest after a shoot-out with police in which an officer was killed.” This shows how Huey Newton got arrested for killing a cop. To conclude, this paragraph talked about how the Black Panther Party formed and why it formed. This also talked about how some people got arrested and how the FBI got involved too. The Black Panther Party was inspired by Malcolm-X. The members of the Black Panther Party thought that Malcolm-X was brave and strong so they followed his ways. The Black Panther Party didn’t only kill but they also helped in their neighborhoods for people who can’t afford food or closes. In the text it said “It was in this context, and in the wake of the assassination of Malcolm X  in 1965, that Merritt Junior College students Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense on October 15, 1966, in West Oakland (officially “Western Oakland,…” This supports my topic sentence because it talked about how the Black Panther Party formed mostly because of Malcolm X. The Black Panther Party did not always kill. In the text it said “In addition to challenging police brutality, the Black Panther Party launched more than 35 Survival Programs and provided community help.” This supports my topic sentence because it says about they were also nice too. The BPP also helped poor people who can’t afford many things. “…such as education, tuberculosis testing, legal aid, transportation assistance, ambulance service, and the manufacture and distribution of free shoes to poor people.” This supports my topic sentence because it talked about how the BPP helped out in their neighborhoods. To conclude, this talks about how the Black Panther Party was inspired by Malcolm-X. The members of the Black Panther Party thought that Malcolm-X was brave and strong so they followed his ways. The Black Panther Party didn’t only kill but they also helped in their neighborhoods for people who can’t afford food or closes.
